SPF and PA

There's just so many things human beings assume we know. We don't mean to be sarcastic at all, but to point out fact, science is still developing and even science reaches its perfection, human beings can only understand and logialize what is limited to understanding of human being - there's no beyond or beneath to it. No matter how much we try, we will never truly understand what it feels like to flap our wings to fly - nor how it feels to see a color that is outside the visible spectrum. So there are some things that we'll never possibly understand and we can't really do anything about, and then there are some things that we assume we know - how does a TV work? How does a car move? Why do airplanes fly (just think of it - it's the most heaviest chunk of iron that flies in the air!)? And these things you can come up with answers - why not feed your curiosity?

So we just wondered (almost randomly) - what truly is SPF and PA that sun block lotions give us the number of? We know they "protect" us from ultraviolet radiation (UV), and higher the number the better. But do we really know what it is?

And then we realized it was time for a micro research to share with you folks. :)

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor (well that's a little self-explanatory huh?:P), and it decelerates the speed of skin to become burned or redden during sun exposure. The number SPF presents the time it takes your skin to burn without sun block lotion divided by the time it takes your skin to burn with sun block lotion. For example, if your skin usually becomes reddened in 15 minutes but when you use a certain sun block lotion your skin becomes burned in 4 hours, the sun block lotion has SPF of 16. (4hrs=240min, 240min/15min=16)

Because of the nature of SPF, it is said that SPF measurements of products are difficult to be accurate and precise. Time it takes a person to be sunburned varies person-by-person. In Japan, even though some products exceed SPF50, the law only permits the labeling of SPF not to exceed 50; because it's hard to be accurate. (We wonder if some products with labeling of SPF50 may possibly decelerate better - but come to think of it, we'll shower or rinse the lotion off anyways even if it decelerates forever!)

On the other hand, PA stands for Protection Grade of UVA. SPF decelerates the speed of skin reddening, while PA level presents the degree of the product preventing tanning. PA varies to PA+, PA++, PA+++, and more plus signs indicate higher level of prevention.

SPF for skin protection, and PA for beauty protection. :)

Trendholic Lip Peeling

Come to wonder why Beauty Tips are endless, we realize the vicious and cynical eye of human being - we could start biological about why people tend to seek for "better looking" partners and there actually is a good reason to it, but we'll put that aside just because that won't bring us to the point in this entry. The point is, it's not a myth that it's likely for people to notice and be secretly disgusted with unfavorable parts of other people - whether it's none of their business or it is. Our value points to a direction where we question: if it's something we can improve with small every-day efforts, why not do so? (Afterall, isn't it much easier to change our appearances than to change our personalities?)

And it's always the tiniest things that you don't notice but other people notice. No matter how sexy you look, a light mustache under your nose and above your lips would turn him down. That one's easy because you could just shave - but what about, your lips being dry and flaky when the time is just right for his first kiss? You can't ask him to pause and wait while you put on chapsticks, can you!

Yes, you could use lip balm regularly to prevent what we just mentioned. But did you know that more you use lip balm, more likely that your lips will feel dry without it? Like addiction. Your lips will become completely relied to lip balm, and can't stay moisturized without it.

The best solution is: would there be any problem if your lips are never chapped anyways?

Trendholic Lip Peeling is the solution to beautiful lips 24/7! :)

This lemon pie flavored lip care peels off dead skin cells on lip, has sugar massage and scrub effect to enhance blood circulation, safely induces metabolism of lips for more beautiful lip color, and prevents dryness and flaking of lip skin!

Are you ready to be ready to kiss him? :)

Step 5 to Your Beauty - Foundation

Now that we're almost finished talking about the regular skin care basis, it seems like we've reached perfection - almost, but not yet. No matter how much nutrition we provide to our skin and how intense we veil our skin to prevent the nutrition we've provided from escaping into air, there isn't really any point if we keep damaging our skin in unavoidable way - sun exposure. Step 5 to Your Beauty is to protect your skin from excess UV light - foundation :)

or here for Step 2
or here for Step3
or here for Step 4
;)

Yes, for those of you who really care about maintaining silky white skin, UV Care matters like a live-or-death decision (which is excellent). So we'd care in convincing those of you who DON'T care - in other words, why should you care to shut off ultraviolet radiation?

We'll admit that dark skin does make you look slimmer and sexier. It's nice to go out in the beach and sunbathe in Newport Beach. Even if we get dark, our cell replication will turn us white again, so it's not like we can't go back. So what's important to know?

By the way, by making our points we naturally omit those girls who have darker skin naturally - we would like to talk about those of you who psychopathically care about obtaining darker skin. (Especially for Asian skin, considering Asian skin tends to have more sensitive skin than that of other ethnicity.)

First of all, we assume many of you know this but we just gotta say this - excess sun exposure leads to higher risk of skin cancer. We won't go deep into the chemistry and biology of why sun exposure does lead to higher risk of skin cancer, but we would just like to make a note that if there were no ozone layer in our atmosphere (way way up in the sky) it would have been impossible for our environment to allow human beings to develop.

Secondly, excess sun exposure causes sweating - duh - and sweating causes your skin cells to lower their water affinity, which naturally leads to dry, itchy skin. If you're tanning to obtain beauty, why damage your skin?

Lastly, even though it's easy to tan evenly throughout your skin in your teen and twenties, it's hard to get rid of the blemish, blots, and freckles that will appear in your face and body ten, twenty, or thirty years from now. If you would stay beautiful by keeping UV out of your skin, why wouldn't you do so?

Now that we may have scared some of you, Select of Beauty would like to notify you that we have created a UV Care Section in our store...

Some for body, some for face. Some are SPF 30 (which is really good) and some are SPF 50 (now that's simply fantastic). We just got more new SPF items which are over here...

UV Spray and UV Cream by Shigaisen Yohou :)

Both of these may be used for face.

And yes, "50" is for SPF 50.

For those of you who just loved REJUARNA and are craving for Naris, we also have sun screen lotion from Naris too!!XD

Step 4 to Your Beauty - Creme Lotion

We hear from so many that a lot of you don't really find a true reason why skin care must be done in so many steps. Younger ladies, especially those in teens, find that moisturizing should be all that matters and other "excess" steps should be eliminated from their precious time. In some cases, some even complain that applying creme and veiling lotion after toner makes them feel like their skin can't breathe. So - why bother about Step 4 to Your Beauty - Creme Lotion?

By the way, click here for Step 1
or here for Step 2
or here for Step 3
:)

Well, it's partially true that applying veiling lotion after toner does make your skin feel like breathing. But think of it this way - do you drown when you're drinking water (in a proper way, of course)? Do you suffocate when you put on a mask? For most of you we assume the answer is no - in fact, when you put on a mask it does veil your face so that people won't see your face or you won't be exposed to UV radiation or for whatever purpose the mask is meant to be used. Perhaps the mask can be used to prevent moisture from escaping, right?

Yes, toner does balance the pH level of your skin and moisturizes your skin after it's washed and it's in a bare state. But don't we all agree that it's useless if the dry, sunny weather of Southern California messes it all up with the strong radiation and lack of humidity?

That's when applying lotion becomes essential in your every day skin care basis. Moisture does escape when you go outside, especially in a dry, sunny weather, and there's gotta be a veil that protects the skin to be moisturized and nutrified so its balance is not disturbed throughout your day and night.

There's no hard work anyways - why not protect your skin from dryness?

First, dispense the veiling lotion on your palm. Dispense decent amount to mask your face and neck area.

Then, use your fingertips on the other hand to apply small amount on forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. Using the excess lotion and applied lotion together, apply the lotion throughout facial skin, as if massaging with the palm of your fingertips. Use large, slow movements and use excess lotion to massage neck area also.

Simpler than any other steps, right?

Step 3 to Your Beauty - CONDITIONER

So now that we've loaded you with mass info about removal of contaminants by washing and cleansing, we're ready to move onto Step 3 to your beauty - conditioner :)

For those of you who missed the last two entries:

Of course, we're actually about to talk about how to use a toner in a proper way, and by describing the process "condition" may make it sound a little awkward because it just gives you the image of "hair conditioning" and we normally don't really use the term for skin care (unless severe skin damage requiring dermatologists use a special term or something like that). Anyways, it's actually a synonym for "toning" and let's first talk about why (I mean, isn't it sill awkward calling it "toning" since we're not trying to tune a guitar or having someone with absolute pitch give you the first note to the whole choir to make sure they start from the right tone?)

Skin mechanism relies on many different components and conditions - whether it's from the inside (what you eat, your oxygen level from breathing, what you drink, etc) or the outside (your skin care products, how often you use the products, humidity in space, sun exposure, etc). However, for most people facial skin doesn't dramatically fall apart from sun exposure or one-time use of a toner cure acne in five seconds - and this is because skin mechanism tries to keep your skin "as is" since the moment you were born.

However, life isn't perfect and more ages you earn obviously gives aged skin - this is because skin metabolism is somewhat prevented in mild level, whether it is from lack of nutrition or lack of removal of contaminants. What skin relies on obtaining nutrition and removing contaminants is the pH level - we won't go deep into the chemistry lesson, but certain pH level of skin cells trigger better metabolism by treating the cells with proper enzymes compared to when pH level is not at the right level. By bringing back the pH level of the skin to the right place (slightly acidic), skin mechanism is able to metabolize (use the nutrients you give and remove wastes) in the best condition.

So, what's important in Step 3? No, we're not telling you to treat your face with hydrochloric acid. One more information before we go into how-to-use for a toner: pH levels of the skin relies on ions, and ionized toner balances the pH level of the skin where it metabolizes the best.

Now that you know why skin conditioning is so important, let's go on the how-to's :)

First, dispense the toner or lotion to a cotton. DO NOT dispense to your palm or your fingers as your palm will absorb most of the nutrients from toner/lotion and your facial skin will get the small amount of leftover nutrients with simple moisture. Be sure the cotton is completely wet rather than just moist.

Next, avoiding the eye area, tap facial skin with the toner-wet cotton. The ideal number of taps for your whole face is twice your age (20 year old skin would require 40 taps). Be sure you tap without any untapped surface. Use excess toner to tap your neck or areas where you would like to concentrate.

By this time your cotton shouldn't be as wet as when you started, but should be somewhat moist. Fold the cotton backwards and gently and slowly tap the eye area. This is important because eye areas have thinner skins and therefore absorbs nutrients more rapidly. Overfeeding the skin with nutrients will cause skin problems.

And for those of you wondering where you can get ionized toners...

Select of Beauty recommends REJUARNA Lotion from Naris Cosmetics! :)

It's hard to find safe and effective skin care products, but Naris provides you with just the right solution - ionized and safest of all brands.

Completely free of fragrance, coal-tar colors, mineral oils, ethyl alcohol, or paraben (preservatives) !!!!

Step 2 to Your Beauty - CLEANSER

So now that we've loaded you with basic knowledge on face washing, some of you may feel ready to learn about toning and moisturizing. Don't be hasty though - as we have explained in last entry, removal of contaminants from facial skin is essential for beautiful and healthy skin. Yes, the proper method for face wash does remove so much more contaminants than you would without washing your face properly with the whipped foam. However, it's undebatable how we have to admit that some contaminants and wastes are impossible to be removed from regular face wash - even the proper ones.

And that's when Step 2 to Your Beauty becomes inevitable in your regular basis - cleanser :)

(We call the cleanser a "conc" and it's pretty much like toner except it aids you to remove contaminants that are left behind in your skin after face wash instead of concentrating on moisture and pH balancing like regular toner)

First, dispense ample amount of conc on a sheet of cotton so that cotton is completely wet rather than just moist. Making the cotton completely wet prevents damage caused to your skin with friction since you will not be tapping like you would with regular toner.

After making sure that cotton is completely wet, gently wipe your entire face. Do not rub with strong pressure as you may damage your skin. If any excess conc remains in cotton, you may wipe your neck and other areas of skin, or come back to area where you would like to concentrate your care on, if desired. While wiping your skin, try to start the touch from inner area of your face and shift to wipe towards the outer area, for anti-aging effect.

And that's all you have to do to be ready for Step 3 (Conditioner) :)

The use of conc isn't just a simple step to "make your face clean for a better look." Removing contaminants will enable better skin metabolism (production of new skin cells) which gives you soft, smooth, and mildly moist skin! :)

For those of you who are wondering...

Where can I find a good one? I don't want the conc to remove nutrition from my skin.

Can I at least try it before I buy one? It's a little pricy considering I have to add another step to my regular basis.

Are there any brand that has conc in its complete set of skin care? I like using products from the same line or brand.

All of your answer is... Select of Beauty :)

REJUARNA Conc from Naris is the answer for effective yet safe cleanser for a beautiful skin!

All products from Naris is completely free of fragrance, coal-tar colors, mineral oils, ethyl alcohol, or paraben (preservatives) !!!!

Step 1 to Your Beauty - WASH

Life is a cycle - what goes around comes back around. We wash our faces on every day basis to remove makeup as if it's a ritual to attain beauty. And that's because it's actually a common sense that removing makeup, contaminants, and any wastes from cell metabolism is essential to gain beautiful skin. However, as beauty advisors, Select of Beauty has seen just so, so many people that are so rich in basic skin care information but are clueless about the proper way of facial cleansing.

And that's why we're here to introduce you to Step 1 to your beauty - wash. :)

First, lightly rinse your face with lukewarm water. There isn't a big problem with cold water, but lukewarm water will open up the pores for better removal of wastes.

Then, dispense about 3/4 inch of cleansing form on palm. Add water little by little in order to not overhydrate the cleanser, and gently stir the cleanser with water to create a thick, whipped foam.

The ideal foam consists of tiniest microbubbles that are nearly invisible, and has no pores or visible air bubbles.

For those of you who can't manage to create this whipped foam with hand only, we recommend foaming net. Follow the same steps as you would create the foam with hand until you dispense the cleanser on the net instead, and create the foam so that you won't smash the foam down.

Or, also WHITE WASH from Ishizawa Laboratory is recommended (click here to read our previous entry about WHITE WASH).

Anyways, after the whipped foam is created, gently cleanse your facial skin with the foam. Always keep a layer of foam between your fingertips and your facial skin; DO NOT rub your fingertips on your skin as this causes your skin to damage and also the foam will not cleanse your pores and subdermal layer.

After you rub your face with the foam, rinse with lukewarm water. DO NOT rub your fingertips on your skin as you do this also. Try to splash your face with water as you breathe out; when you try to stop breathing, you may cause your face to wrinkle as your expression may not be comfortable. Be sure your face is either at no expression or smiling :) Also, be sure all of the foam is rinsed off of your face after this step as if you don't skin irritation may occur.

This is an extra step - for those of you concerned with pores that stand out, greasy skin, or wrinkles, we recommend rinsing your face with ice cold water at least 15 times after rinsing off the facial foam with lukewarm water. Using lukewarm water to rinse contaminants off is effective but using cold water to finish off will close the pores and will give a better look for the skin.

Finally, when towel drying, be sure you do not rub your skin; gently wrap your entire face with towel and feel the water soaking into the towel.

Since facial cleansing is something we do at least twice every day, it's essential to use a facial cleanser that really cleans, but doesn't damage the skin.

And so we introduce you to Double Cleansing from REJUARNA Alive Feel! :)

REJUARNA Double Cleansing doesn't just clean contaminants but also removes makeup.

Completely free of fragrance, coal-tar colors, mineral oils, ethyl alcohol, or paraben (preservatives) !!!!
